    ok some stuff about me:

follower of jesus the christ: i was raised in the independent baptist church scene in south east queensland, australia. for most of you, that doesn’t mean a lot, so let me give you a short definition; we are talking pretty full on fundamentalist, conservative, legalistic and traditional. the king james bible only, old hymns accompanied by an organ and piano only, rock music is of the devil… etc etc. amazingly i survived {due to my fantastically down to earth, very honest parents} and i’m sorta normal today {well not too weird}. over the years in church i’ve run youth groups, run youth camps, went to theological college & studied the bible, taught sunday school, spoken in churches, taught in churches…. in july 2005, after much prayer and prompting we decided to jump out of the boat and stop going to “church” - by that we mean we want to follow our Father & our Christ outside of the box of “organized religion” {whatever that means}. here is a podcast that i am really digging that sorta goes into it: the God journey. if you ever want to know more about where we are at, and how’s it going, don’t hesitate to contact us.

husband of benita: my way better half…my muse, my love, and the very blood that moves my body… i met this revolutionary young woman and her crazy south african family in 1995, in 96 i fell madly in love with her, in August 2001 we got married, and the adventure begun. i cannot express to you how much i love her, how amazing she is and, on a daily basis, how she got the poopy end of the stick when she married me! i am truly blessed to have this person by my side.

    my boys september 2007

father of drummond & galvin: my first born son drummond jacobus paine came into this world on new years eve 2003 while we still lived in Geelong, Victoria. my second born son galvin william paine arrived on August 27th 2006 on the Gold Coast, Queensland. i dig the fact that you can tell straight away if people like their names, they will either say something like “great names, or i LOVE their names!” or “those names…. are…. different” {and you can translate “different” as “weird”}. drummond’s initials are d.j.p, he has my birthright, i wanted to call him just “drum” but benita expanded it out to “drummond”. as far as drum’s middle name; benita’s grandfather {her father’s father} is Jacobus. drummond takes after benita’s side of the family big time. Galvin is my mother’s maiden name. i always loved that name as a strong sounding first name. and all my uncles, cousins etc were all Galvins. his middle name; both my dad and benita’s dad have William as their fist names. galvin lives up to his name and takes after my mothers side of the family. i love my boys more than life itself. they are a constant source of joy, laughter, amazement, pride & frustration. they will most be the most photographed human beings by me.

born and live in Australia: the greatest country on earth. seriously. i am far from being “patriotic” {that’s more an american thing} i just am very thankful to live down here. born in Brisbane, Queensland, grew up mostly on the Gold Coast, Queensland, went to Bible College in Sydney, traveled around the USA for 6 months in 1994, moved to Geelong, Victoria in 1995 and lived there for 10 years. in 2005 we moved our little family back to my home town of Gold Coast and in August 2007 we moved into the house we live in now in the middle of the city of Southport.

by occupation i am a photographer. i have been shooting professionally since 1995 and have been running my own business djp photography since Jan 1st 1998. i specialize in creative photography of people. i own a LOT of cameras but my weapon of choice is the Canon EOS 5D. i still love shooting film but it’s getting harder and harder to get quality processing & printing for film.
besides the 10’s of thousands of images i have up on flickr i also keep three photography blogs:
    my djp photography work.
    my polaroids.
    my personal work.

i am a music fanatic. my iTunes library is currently sitting at 30,381 items, 162.98 GB 90.5 days worth of music. {as of September 1st 2007} i am also deep into christian hip hop: i run a little music organization that is called mustard empire {place tongue firmly in cheek}. i also am a spokesman for and help co-ordinate australia’s christian hip hop network. in 2006 we transitioned all of our efforts into starting australia’s first hip-hop church: KrossWerdz.

what else am i? someone who LOVES to connect people together. someone who LOVES working on projects and co-ordinating creative events, or products. a loving but stern father, a hopelessly in love husband, bald, podcaster & podcast junkie, an apple mac fan boy, movie reviewer, web 2.0 pundit, radio dj, extraordinary mixtape maker, visual artist, illustrator, sketching draw-er, would be graphic designer, ice-cream freak, wanna be theologian, someone who finds it hard to throw away old magazines…………. and all round awesome guy.
